Although the word filicide is the most commonly used to describe this crime, there are several synonyms that are often used to refer to this act of violence. Some of the synonyms for filicide include; child murder, infanticide, child homicide, and neonaticide. Infanticide refers specifically to the killing of an infant within the first year of life while neonaticide is the term used to describe the killing of a newborn baby. Regardless of the term used, filicide is a tragic and devastating crime that has long-lasting effects on the community, family, and friends of the victim.
