The Superorder Labyrinthodonta is a group of extinct animals that lived during the Paleozoic era. These creatures were characterized by their labyrinthodont teeth, which had a complex fold of enamel and dentine. There are several synonyms for this group, including the Order Temnospondyli, which refers to their distinctive vertebrae, and the Subclass Lepospondyli, which describes their simplified vertebrae. Additionally, they are sometimes referred to simply as labyrinthodonts, or as early amphibians, due to their similarities to modern amphibians. The Superorder Labyrinthodonta includes many species, such as the famous Eryops, which lived in what is now North America during the Late Carboniferous to Early Permian period.
