The Army Reserves, or military reserves, can also be referred to as the National Guard, militia, or reserve troops. These terms all describe the group of individuals who serve in their military branch part-time, while still maintaining civilian jobs or education. The Reserves can also be divided into different categories such as Active Guard and Reserve (AGR) or Individual Ready Reserve (IRR). Two other synonyms for the Army Reserves include the Territorial Army, used mainly in the UK, and the Army National Guard, which is a component of the Army Reserves in the United States. All these terms describe the same essential group of trained soldiers who remain prepared to serve their country when needed.
