Waldenstrom Macroglobulinemia is a rare type of blood cancer that occurs in the bone marrow. This cancer results from the abnormal growth of white blood cells called B cells, and the production of an abnormal protein called macroglobulin. Although there are no synonyms for Waldenstrom Macroglobulinemia, the disease is also known by its acronym WM or Waldenstrom's. This cancer affects males more than females over the age of 50 and progresses slowly, often without symptoms in the early stages. The symptoms that occur later include fatigue, weakness, weight loss, and bleeding disorders. Although there is no cure for Waldenstrom Macroglobulinemia, treatments can help manage the symptoms and improve the quality of life for patients.
